The incumbent of this position will: Install, maintain and repair headend and OTN electronics to include but not limited to:satellite receivers,analog/digital modulators, processors microwave transmitters, microwave receivers, 8VSB receivers, encoding equipment, digital multiplex equipment and other headend, IP decoders, fiber optic transmitters and receivers, and various QAM modulators. Installs and maintains all outside structures related to head-end and hub operations including all types of attennas and earth stations.
Installs and maintains optic transmission and transport equipment
Implement, maintain and troubleshoot CMTS, microwave and video equipment systems
Installs new equipment, modifies and reconfigures existing equipment as necessary
Updates and maintains manual and electronic logs and records in accordance with plant, FCC, City, and state franchise requirements and maintains inventory and maintenance records on equipment and parts
Participate in 24 hour technical coverage of the Headend and Hub site systems
Work together with technical staff to ensure the correction of customer and plant problems in an effective and timely manner
Respond to plant and headend problems in an on-call situation
Oversee defective equipment return and replacement to ensure system down times are kept to a minimum
Various other duties as required
Skills Required
Degree or Diploma in Telecommunications or Electronics with a minimum of 3 years CATV field or 5-7 years of CATV field and headend experience.
Thorough knowledge of fiber optic and cable television electronic equipment, headend/fiber optic and broadband concepts. RF and analog/digital video equipment, line equipment, coverters, and earth station antennas, trunk and feeder equipment, passive devices
Must be able to demonstrate familiarity with various head end tests equipment including fiber optic, MPEG, AC-3 and Multicast Video test equipment
Basic knoweledge and understanding of installation and maintenance of Microwave and Satellite equipment
Knowledge of Ethernet Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), Internet Protocol (IP) and Windows 98NT
Excellent Oral and Written Communication
Ability to learn new technologies as needed for futures systems
Ability to work various shifts, weekends, and holidays. Ability to work 24 hour standby rotational shifts.
