Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Accounting Manager, the Accountant performs professional accounting duties including analyzing and verifying financial records and reports, providing information as requested regarding accounting practices and procedures and reconciling general ledger accounts; assist in preparing annual and mid-year budgets; prepare year-end reports and schedules.  Essential to this position is the ability to apply general accounting principles to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports by compiling information, preparing profit and loss statements and utilizing appropriate accounting control procedures.  The Accountant must establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with all stakeholders from International Capital & Management Company (IC&MC) and client organizations. This position is based on St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.

Scope and Complexity: 

The Accountant utilizes general accounting, organizational and analytical skills in an effective and efficient manner to ensure that the IC&MC accounting office run effectively and efficiently. This position requires a great degree of flexibility working with others including, but not limited to the IC&MC and client finance and accounting department teams.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure
  • Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close
  • Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information
  • Reconcile bank statements with general ledger and cash management system
  • Assist the CFO and Accounting Manager in the daily banking requirements
  • Supports budget and forecasting activities
  • Relieve Accounting Manager of administrative detail and coordinate workflow
  • Work with the Accounting Manager to ensure a clean and timely yearend audit
  • Assist the accounting group to ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met

Skills Required

Skills & Experience:

  • Requires a minimum of 2 to 3 years recent accounting experience and successful completion of a Bachelor’s Degree (BA or BS)
  • General knowledge of: finance, accounting, budgeting and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; financial and accounting software applications; tax issues including federal financial regulations
  •  Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Project.  
  • Experience working with Microsoft Great Plains; timeline and project management
  • Ability to resolve accounting discrepancies
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent oral, written and interpersonal communications skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast paced environment
  • Excellent customer service and support-oriented approaches to interaction are required
  • This position may require evening and/or weekend hours; work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule
