Gifft Hill School in beautiful St. John, USVI is looking for an outstanding Secondary Language Arts Teacher who can live our mission and vision by providing a dynamic, rigorous academic program that supports students with a range of learning styles and readiness levels; within a climate that fosters a love of learning, mutual respect, and the importance of personal responsibility. Successful candidates will have experience teaching English Language Arts at the secondary level and be comfortable teaching students in grades 6-12. He/she will demonstrate experience and expertise in using differentiated instructional practices and positive, proactive classroom management strategies. He/she will demonstrate the capacity to teach in an interdisciplinary manner, to collaborate effectively with specialists, and to maintain a high standard of record keeping and personalized communication with parents. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience with integrating performing arts and/or expeditionary learning into instruction, and using the 6 + 1 Writing Traits for writing instruction. With the island as our classroom, teachers who seek to build a school community rich in rigorous academics and daily experiences of discovery, and who can model adaptability and teamwork for their students will be a wonderful match to this position.
