To teach young adults the vocational skills necessary to do gut rehabilitation, new construction and to work in the building trades at an entry level.Provide the supportive guidance and encouragement necessary for the development if their leadership skills.
Responsibilities:
Must be able to teach vocational education in the construction trades.
To provide supervision of the participants on the construction site, maintain safety and interface with contractors, subcontractors and VIHA maintenance safety.
Teach the proper use and handling of all hand tools, power tools and equipment.
Provide classroom and practical instructions on the core construction materials to include construction math, OSHA safety, basic rigging, blueprint reading and introduction to masonry, carpentry, residential plumbing and electricity.
Complete on a daily basis, job reports, tool checklist and attendance.
Monitor and evaluate the student knowledge and skills in construction.
Submit complete, comprehensive, concise, monthly reports evaluating each participant’s knowledge of the construction trades.
Experience in training young people in the building trades and a strong commitment to helping young people succeed in an innovative training program to reorient their lives and promote leadership skills.
Provide an oversight of the on-site construction training ensuring participants receive consistent and adequate skills training.
Ensure work-site safety learning of safety procedures and proper construction techniques.
Enforce YouthBuild attendance policies and procedures consistently.
Responsible to help set standards for appropriate behavior and ways to handle problems on the construction work-site.
Skills Required
Qualifications include:
Minimum of High School Diploma or GED Certificate
Five years experience in the construction trade.
Excellent oral and writing communication skills.
Contractor's license demonstrating experience in construction management.
Ability to work in an enthusiastic and encouraging way with young people who have not completed high school.
Understanding of the issues facing young people who have not completed high school.
Experience or interest in training young people in the building trades and a strong committment to hellping young p eople sucdeed in an innovative training program to reorient their lives and promote leadership skills.
Experience in training and supervising staff.
Ability to work as part of a team.
