Job Description:

The Network Manager’s role is to plan, direct and coordinate the design, installation and connectivity of computing and networking systems to ensure the effective, reliable and secure operation of the organization’s IT assets.  This includes developing, configuring, maintaining, supporting and optimizing all new and existing network hardware, software and communication services.  The Network Manager will also schedule, direct and monitor the activities of a team of network specialists to address end-user hardware and software needs and resolve problems in a timely and accurate manner.  Work is performed under limited supervision.  Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned.

  • Plan, acquire and coordinate installation/implementation of corporate and remote infrastructure hardware and software across the organization’s network environment.
  • Design and implement short-term and long-term strategic plans to ensure network capabilities and capacity meet existing and future requirements in an efficient, reliable, secure and cost-effective manner.
  • Direct and monitor activities of all assigned network analysts and technicians.  Complete performance reviews and manage appropriate corrective actions as necessary.
  • Manage and ensure effectiveness of network servers including email, application, web, desktop management, virtual desktop/servers, print and backup equipment, as well as their associated operating systems and software.
  • Manage and ensure optimal operation of all networking hardware and software including routers, switches, hubs, UPS’s, VPN’s and other associated equipment.
  • Manage and ensure effectiveness of all network security solutions including firewalls, anti-virus products, intrusion detection devices/systems, active directory, authentication services and access control software.  Approve and administer network security activities including user accounts, permissions and access rights.
  • Ensure the accuracy, integrity, security and safekeeping of all entrusted assets including equipment and data.
  • Develop, implement, maintain and enforce policies and procedures for network resource administration and use.
  • Develop and deploy methodologies to gather and report appropriate performance related metrics and statistics.
  • Assist in development and management of disaster recovery plans for all systems within area of responsibility.
  • Conduct research and make recommendations on network products, services and standards in support of all infrastructure and development efforts.  Stay abreast of technology changes/advances across the IT spectrum.
  • Negotiate with vendors, outsourcers and contractors to secure all required network products and services.
  • Assess, approve, and administer all IT-related equipment, hardware, software and service upgrades.
  • Establish, implement, manage and document best practices and policies for installation, configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of end-user PC hardware, software and peripheral devices.
  • Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with the organization’s executives, decision-makers, key stakeholders, department heads, end users and the IT team in support of network activities/initiatives.
  • Provide after-hours support as necessary, including 24x7 on-call availability.
  • Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned.


Skills Required

  • BS/BA degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related discipline; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience managing and directing support of enterprise-wide LAN’s, WAN’s and related I.T. network infrastructure and end-user PC hardware and software.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years experience implementing and supporting IT-related infrastructure hardware and software.
  • Exceptional technical knowledge of Microsoft Windows networking, servers and PC operating systems.
  • Hands-on experience supporting and troubleshooting network hardware and software including servers, routers, bridges, switches, hub, circuits, DNS, DHCP, VPN’s and required connectivity services in a TCP/IP Ethernet environment.
  • Experience implementing and supporting Web/Internet related technologies, including multiple application servers.
  • Project management experience with proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong customer service orientation, with proven ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple/changing priorities in a demanding business environment, while making sound decisions in any emergency situation.
  •  Highly self-motivated and directed, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate across cultures and present ideas in a clear, concise and user-friendly language.
  • MCSE and CCNA Certifications, with experience in Active Directory implementations preferred.
  • Lotus Domino/Notes installation and administration experience preferred.
  •  Websphere, IIS, Apache and Tomcat web server application support experience preferred.
  • Exposure to Linux and Unix (SUN Solaris) operating systems, applications and platforms preferred.
  • Implementation and support experience with desktop management and virtual/thin-client technologies (VDI) preferred.
  • Experience with mid-range platforms and connectivity including the IBM Power 6 (AS400/iSeries). Support background in a CommSoft application software and hardware platform environment.
  • Experience in the Telecommunications industry or a related field preferred.
