Job Description:

Job Title:  Mental Health Specialist II Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree in field of mental health counseling, social work, psychology, or related human services field with at least two years work experience working with substance abuse patients. Multilingual in English and Spanish, preferred. Certification in substance abuse counseling preferred.  Experience with co-occurring disorder population preferred.  Scope of Position: Duties include assessments, co-occurring individual and group counseling, treatment planning, educational presentations.  ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   include the following, as well as performance of other work related duties as assigned: 

1.      Maintains and demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of therapeutic community concepts and treatment principles.

2.      Maintains and demonstrates an understanding of  co-occurring disorders treatment techniques and principles.

3.      Participates as member of the treatment team by being responsible for implementing the therapeutic community milieu including: a.       Modeling and mentoring recovery behaviors, b.      supporting the culture of the TC, c.       supporting conflict resolution, d.      ensuring that therapeutic community structure and activities are implemented according to guidelines, e.       understanding and implementing sanction and reward systems;f.       understanding and implementing the mechanisms of addressing and reporting client behavior that presents opportunities for learning and behavior changeg.      maintaining awareness of dynamics occurring in the milieu by active presence and participation in client scheduled activities and when clients are not involved in scheduled activities
  1. Maintains working knowledge of agency identified best practices.
  2. Maintains clinical caseload.
  3. Leads and works as part of client’s multidisciplinary team to coordinate client assessments and treatment plan development/implementation.
  4. Conducts comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments, documents these assessments, including summary development and uses assessment results in development of comprehensive treatment plan.
  5. Develops and implements comprehensive individualized treatment plans and treatment plan updates that integrate input from all multidisciplinary treatment team members.
  6. Delivers group, individual and family counseling services that including HIV/AIDS risk-reduction activities.
  7. Delivers client didactic education, and community education.
  8. Ensures each client has appropriate discharge plans including continuing care, if indicated, and has adequate resources required to support ongoing sobriety and mental health stability at the time of discharge.
  9. Maintain clinical records in compliance with agency, local and federal guidelines.  Ensure that documentation indicates compliance with timelines.
  10. Assists with the collection of 6- month GPRA follow up.
  11. Participate in Performance Improvement activities as required by the Clinical Services Coordinator.
  12. Coordinate efforts with service providers in the community.
15.  Serves as member of Quality Improvement Team and conducts assigned quality improvement activities.


Skills Required

* Ability to work as part of a team

* Ability to create treatment plans based on individual needs of clients

* Comprehensive understanding of addiction and mental health treatment concepts
