The successful candidate will provide business consulting services to potential and existing small business owners, with special emphasis in business planning, management, financing, personnel, and marketing; develop and implement training events and workshops; promote SBDC services and network with community organizations involved in small business and economic development. The candidate will also enter and report counseling and milestone information into the WebCats reporting system to meet all State and Federal requirements of the Small Business Development Center Program; develop and maintain familiarity with other external sources of business assistance for client referrals; provide general support and assistance to the VI SBDC network, and with the implementation of the VI SBDC strategic plan; conduct research on small business development; write publications; advocate interests of small businesses; maintain the business library; keep records; work independently to solve practical problems; interface with other programs and staff of the University of the Virgin Islands and perform other duties as assigned.
Skills Required
Master's degree in business administration or related area; and six years of experience in management; or one year of related professional experience in areas such as consulting to small businesses in accounting, marketing, general and financial management or commercial lending in addition to the Master's Degree. Experience in preparing/reviewing business plans/and or business loan packages. Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience. Ability to work independently and meet deadlines. Self-motivated and goal-oriented. Skilled in working with clients/partners in both the public and private sector. Ability to manage confidential information. Ability to work effectively with technology tools, including computer software, hardware and the internet.
