Job Description:
Project Reach Lutheran Social Services is recruiting for the 2015-2016 AmeriCorps service term. Apply Now! What is AmeriCorps? AmeriCorps is a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) that engages thousands of Americans in community service every year to address critical community needs. Project Reach Lutheran Social Services is recruiting AmeriCorps members who are highly committed to social work in general. A member must have patience, good communication skills, and be at ease working with either children in a group care environment, adults with disabilities, or senior citizens. Furthermore, the member should be able to cope with stress and be comfortable in a multi-cultural service environment. In short, he or she will see this sort of service as a call to duty and a way to give back to and support our local community. What are the eligibility requirements? AmeriCorps programs are open to U.S. citizens, nationals, or lawful permanent residents age 17 and older. What are the benefits? AmeriCorps members receive a modest living allowance and health insurance along with student-loan forbearance and child care reimbursement for those who qualify. After successfully completing their term of service, members receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award. This award can be used to pay off qualified student loans or to finance college, graduate school, or vocational training at eligible institutions. In addition to these benefits, AmeriCorps members learn new skills, acquire qualities of leadership, and gain a sense of fulfillment from taking on responsibilities that directly affect peoples' lives. As we prepare for our 2015-2016 service term as an AmeriCorps grantee, Lutheran Social Services of the Virgin Islands (LSSVI) is recruiting committed, mature individuals who are willing to share their knowledge, give of their time, and who will respond to the training and on-site skills attainment from LSSVI staff. Members will serve full-time from August 30, 2015 to August 29, 2016. Members will be placed at the following LSSVI service locations: - St. Croix: members will be recruited for Queen Louise Home for Children, Flambouyant Gardens, Ginger Thomas Residence and the LSS Housing Management Division
