Job Description:

PRODUCTION TECHNICIAN I – ST. CROIX

 

The Virgin Islands Public Broadcasting System has an opening for a Production Technician I on the island of St. Croix. The successful candidate will be responsible for editing shows, specials and documentaries and assisting in production shoots.

Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Set up, operate and striking of equipment and sets;

·         Record, tag and complete inventory of tapes and promo reels;

  • Dub tapes onto various formats;

·         Resolve problems relative to exposure control, subject and camera movement, changes in subject distance during recording and related variables;

·         Operate cameras, microphones, lights, Deko/Chyron, prompter, video recorders, audio boards (Digital and Analog), and accessories during and in preparation for remote and studio broadcasts;

  • Photograph various subjects and materials;
  • Adjust lighting in the field and in studio;
  • Adjust and monitor video levels during productions and recordings;
  • Adjust and monitor production levels for audio equipment during productions and recordings;  
  • Analyze video composition and adjust accordingly during production shoots;
  • Perform Technical Directing duties;
  • Perform Directing duties;
  • Perform field and studio productions as assigned by the Producers, Production Supervisor or Production Manager;
  • Help cross-train Technical Assistants with operations as needed; and

·         Edit programs, promos, and other video productions on the AVID/Final Cut Editing System; and

·         Edit long and short form programs independently with minimal instructions from producers and/or production supervisors.

Qualifications:

·         High school diploma or equivalent;

·         Three (3) years of experience in operating studio and field audio/ visual equipment; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job; and

·         1-2 years non-linear editing experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job.

 

 

Other Requirements:

 

  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills;

·         Ability to work overtime, nights and weekends as needed;

·         Ability to work outdoor and in the sun as needed;

·         Ability to sit at a computer and stand for long periods of time;

·         Ability to work well in a team environment and adapt to changing situations;

·         Ability to follow and accept directives;

  • Ability to load and off load production equipment and lift set furniture with other crew members;
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds;
  • Ability to carry hand held cameras during productions for 30 minutes;
  • Ability to climb and descend from ladders and scaffolds;
  • Ability to stand for 2-3 hours during productions;
  • Ability to assess equipment and learn new equipment as needed;
  • Ability to drive trucks, vans and cars and must have a valid USVI Driver’s License; and
  • Ability to add creative input to programs.
