Job Description:

Project Reach Lutheran Social Services is recruiting for the 2014-2015 AmeriCorps service term.

Come to an Open House to get more information!

  • St. Croix: Thursday, July 3 at 9:00 a.m. at Queen Louise Home for Children, 71 Concordia West
  • St. Thomas: Thursday, July 10 at 9:30 a.m. at Ebenezer Gardens, 1909 Hospital Ground

What is AmeriCorps? AmeriCorps is a program of the Corporation for Community and National Service (CNCS) that engages thousands of Americans in community service every year to address critical community needs.

Project Reach Lutheran Social Services wants to recruit AmeriCorps members who are highly committed to social work in general. A member must have patience, good communication skills, and be at ease working with either troubled children in a group care environment, adults with disabilities and/or senior citizens who live independently. Furthermore, the member should be able to cope with stress and be comfortable in a multi-cultural service environment. Ideally, the member will see this sort of service as a call to duty and a way to give back to and support our local community.

What are the eligibility requirements? AmeriCorps programs are open to U.S. citizens, nationals, or lawful permanent resident aliens age 17 and older. Project Reach Lutheran Social Services is committed to the inclusion for people of all abilities seeking service opportunities in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

What are the benefits? AmeriCorps members receive a modest living allowance and health insurance along with student-loan forbearance and child care reimbursement for those who qualify. After successfully completing their term of service, they receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of up to $5,645. This award can be used to pay off qualified student loans or to finance college, graduate school, or vocational training at eligible institutions.

In addition to these benefits, AmeriCorps members learn new skills, acquire qualities of leadership, and gain a sense of satisfaction from taking on responsibilities that directly affect peoples' lives.

As we prepare for our 2014-2015 service term as an AmeriCorps grantee, Lutheran Social Services of the Virgin Islands (LSSVI) is recruiting committed, mature individuals who are willing to share their knowledge, give of their time, and who will respond to the training and on-site skills attainment from LSSVI personnel. Members will serve full-time from August 30, 2014 to August 29, 2015. Members will be placed at the following LSSVI program sites:

St. Croix: members will be recruited for Queen Louise Home for Children, Flambouyant Gardens, Ginger Thomas Residence and the Housing Management Division

St. Thomas: members will be recruited for Ebenezer Gardens and Yellow Cedar Residence

What are
Users Saying

Over six months after my high school graduation and I'm yet to find a job and I'm still unemployed. It feels like I've looked and search everywhere but still it seems like I'm looking in all the wrong places. I've tried the newspaper, walk-ins, phone calls, even various online job websites. I found Career.VI the "Virgin Island's leading job search website". Even though I haven't found a job as yet, Career.VI gives me a sense of hope and makes me feel like the tides will change and the best is yet to come.
