Job Title: Retail Manger FLSA Status: Exempt Department: Retail Department
Purpose and Scope:
The Retail Manager is responsible for the daily on-site operations of all ancillary business; to include labor scheduling, maintaining supplies, generating reports, and supervision of the staff. In partnership with Coral World Management and WTCNM’s Senior Manager of Ancillary Operations, develop business strategies to drive sales through local events and normal, daily operation. Ancillary operations include photography, as well as other self-operated machines in the park as an extension of the core retail business.
Supervision and Guidance:
The Retail Manager:
Will report to the East Coast Regional Manager of WTCNM’s East Coast Regional Manager as well as Coral World’s General Manager.
Will work closely with Director of Merchandising to assure a consistent flow of merchandise and acceptable execution of merchandise plans and presentation.
Is expected to have the ability to handle routine and non-routine functions without close supervision, but within WTCNM and Coral World’s policies and procedures.
Represents WTCNM at the location (s) and is expected to work closely with the Coral World Management and staff.Including attending weekly and monthly meetings and act within the general guidelines for employees of Coral World Ocean Park.
Thoroughly read and fully understand the WTCNM and Coral World Corporate Policy and Procedure Manuals.
Photo Operations, Stroller Operations, Photo Booths, Face Painting, Coin Press, Medallion Mints and all other ancillary business are an extension of the guest experience at the facility. Training the retail staff to respond to any disruption of their experience with our ancillary partners is a key part of the responsibility.
Duties and Responsibilities: (Including but not limited to)
Assure that each Assistant Manager, Supervisors, Sales Associates, and Photo Associates read and fully understand the corporate Policy Manual and those parts of the Procedure Manual that relate to her/his responsibilities.
Learn and fully understand Bleep, Excel and Word programs.If unfamiliar with any area, must acknowledge such to Corporate Management to be properly trained.
Maintain an organized office.
Establish and maintain an organized filing system.
Prepare and implement the bi-annual shop(s) plan that includes Merchandise Plan, Display Plan, Marketing Plan, Operating Plan, Staffing Plan, etc.
Supervise and coordinate all merchandise operations including new and existing facilities, in the specific location.
Maximize store profitability by achieving sales goals and costs controls.
Drive peak day sales.
Recommend written suggestions for improvements to existing operations and procedures, and implement as approved.
Coordinate the hiring, training, and conduct of store personnel.
Ensure that cash control procedures established by WTCNM and Coral World are instituted and scrupulously respected within the department.
Maintain and update semi-monthly Open-to-Buy worksheet(s) during peak season and monthly during off-season months.
Make certain that all stores are adequately stocked at all times and proper inventory levels maintained.
Analyze inventory and suggest markdowns and retail promotions to achieve proper inventory levels.
Spend adequate time on the sales floor, and communicate regularly with management on product feedback and customer issues.
Generate and analyze period end reports (weekly/monthly/yearly) and use as management tools.
Furnish period end reports (weekly/monthly/yearly) to corporate and regional office on a timely basis.Reports to be accurate and complete.
Receive goods into and maintain the inventory control system for the store(s), following established WTCNM procedures.
Ensure that the in Zoo or Aquarium marketing program and all local promotions are executed as scheduled.
Ensure that Coral World Ocean Park’s uniform code is adhered to.
Coordinate and conduct semi-annual physical inventory.Initiate cycle counts as needed.
Strive to create a “team” atmosphere within the stores, and initiate staff development.
Maintain high customer service standards.
Provide operational support for functions and special events.
Travel to national and regional meetings as deemed necessary by the corporate staff.
Assists with the opening of new stores.
Perform other duties as required by WTCNM and Coral World Ocean Park.
Skills Required
General Skills/Knowledge/Work Experience/ Education/Certification/License:
Required:
A high school graduate with additional college education in business management, retail or merchandise related courses preferred.Work experience in the retail field can be considered in lieu of college class work.
Minimum five years retail experience.
Minimum 4 years supervisory/management experience.
Ability to meet federal, state and local requirements for employment.
Ability to lift moderately sized boxes and goods, weighing up to 30 pounds.
Ability to work flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
Willingness to travel to WTCNM accounts as needed.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Preferred:
Degree in Business or related field.
Bilingual
Special Requirements:
Must be willing to work overtime, holidays, and weekends as requested by manager.
Must be a team player and be able to get along with others.
Must be personable, courteous and able to work under pressure
Must be able to lead by example.
