Job Summary:

This position is responsible for developing and strengthening business relationships with current and prospective clients.  It is responsible for providing commercial banking services, and offering an array of credit and non-credit products (including Deposits, Cash Management, Treasury Products, and others) for corporate clients in the various business segments (Commercial & Industrial, Government, Institutional, Real Estate, and Commercial Mortgage).  This position is responsible for executing commercial banking activities including large and complex transactions.  Provides advice regarding the structuring of debt, including finance, and Line of Credits.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for providing commercial and relationship banking services, and an array of credit and deposit products for corporate segment clients.
  • Responsible for identifying prospects and acquiring new clients according to the Banks lines of business and market targets.
  • Plans and negotiates commercial lending and other bank’s corporate services according to client’s needs and business requirements.
  • Executes commercial banking activities including extensions of credit.
  • Participates in written responses to corporate client’s RFPs.
  •  Advises clients regarding cash management, and credit-related transactions.
  • Prepares complete financial analysis which may include; financial statements and credit investigations of the borrower, guarantors and or collateral debts, company’s investments, industry trend publications, rating agencies, as well as accessing information through internet.
  •  Accesses economic and market conditions as they relate to the company, industry, and market area.
  • Oversees, supervises and prepares in-depth historical financial and projection analysis, including the performance “what if” scenarios that test the reasonableness of the projections.
  • Identifies major trends, issues, risks, strengths and weaknesses of credit.
  • Presents credit transactions and annual reviews of the appropriate lending authority level for approval.
  • Monitors accounts to minimize delinquency and obtains approval for any overdrafts of accounts at the appropriate lending authority level.
  • Oversees existing credit relationships to ensure compliance with loan conditions; establishes and maintains client file including; loan application (line of credit) and related documents, credit agreements and legal documents, financial statements and compliance package.
  • Performs collections efforts for accounts assigned to assure loans are maintained current and works diligently for the revision and re-approval of matured facilities to minimize past due balances.
  • Ensures loan covenants are adhered to and that all required customer information is obtained in a timely manner.
  • Notifies his supervisor and business line management of any covenants violations, other events of default, material adverse changes or deterioration of asset quality.
  • Addresses the inquiries from clients and prospects. Tracks all incoming client requests and responses in adherence with compliance and legal policies.
  • Coordinates and performs client’s visits and ensures adherence to the agreed schedule.
  • Prepares Credit Approval Memorandums, criticized reports, call and other reports as per Bank’s policies and procedures.
  • Prepares and delivers customized presentations and proposals as required.
  • Reviews legal documentation for transactions approved, and assures compliance with approved terms. Obtains approval for any credit policy, collateral or documentary exceptions.
  • Participates  in and successfully pass, at regular intervals, the mandatory training in accordance with BVI Anti-Money Laundering rules, laws, and regulations and such other applicable rules and regulations having regard to the level and nature of risk posed by the bank’s banking business in the Territory

 

  • Performs such other duties as are assigned by the Supervisor from time to time.

 

Independence of Judgment:

The independence of judgment of this job is related to the continuous analysis of specialized and complex subjects; creation, development and implantation of policies, strategies and work methods of general application; and is also related to the recommendation of action or decision on subjects of essential functions of the Bank.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position may supervise other Business Relationship Officers and Administrative Assistants.

The impact of errors of this position could affect essential activities that are important for the Bank, either from other divisions or departments, or within; strategic results or Bank image through the regulatory agencies, customers and the community and the stability and continuity of the vital Bank operations.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must be able to visit clients, other private financial related entities, and different community groups.

 

Competencies

  • Must be able to understand clients goals and write effective Credit Approval Memorandums and other business presentations
  • Must project confidence, maturity and professionalism
  • Must have demonstrated interpersonal skills
  • Should have excellent written and verbal communication skills (English, Spanish would be a plus, but is not required)


Skills Required

Minimum Requirements:

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree, BBA (Finance, Accounting) preferred
  • Formal credit training and some supervisory skills desirable
  • Familiarity with relevant compliance and tax laws
  • Strong knowledge in MS Office programs (Word, Excel)

Experience

  • Three to five years of related work experience in corporate banking services
  • Thorough understanding of Banks products, competitors products, clients needs, and effective product positioning
  • Financial projections modeling and analysis experience and a high level of analytical ability
  • Able to illustrate complex concepts and quantitative information
  • Experience in preparing loan reports and call reports
  • Knowledge of financial statements and disclosures and corporate lending products
  • Strong planning, negotiation and sales skills
