Job Description:

The General Utility Laborer is responsible for performing landscaping activities and manual work necessary to maintain facility grounds and other designated areas, all while assuring full compliance of safety and environmental requirements. This employee must have previous demonstrable experience with exercising good judgment when performing skilled landscaping and manual labor necessary to maintain buildings, grounds, and related facilities.
 
He/she performs but not limited to the following tasks:
  • Mow grass, trim/cut trees, regularly inspect assigned work areas to ensure proper standards are maintained
  • Operate company vehicles and machinery for providing site maintenance services
  • Keep company vehicle/machinery clean and washed at designated intervals
  • Operate lawn and grounds equipment including power mowers, chainsaws, and other power equipment
  • Repair and maintain property walk and lots
  • Maintain exterior and interior landscaping in accordance with the landscaping plan
  • Remove refuse and trash from grounds to also include facility road clean up
  • Adjust, clean, and perform minor mechanical work on grounds equipment
  • Requisitions, controls, and issues grounds keeping supplies
  • May apply pesticide
  • Coordinate work site and crew
  • Attend safety & planning meetings
  • Maintain accurate paperwork, records & receipts
  • Conduct daily inspection of machinery
  • Meet department tasks expectations
  • Keep vehicles, machinery, and tools in good repair and working order
  • Maintain facility buildings
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned

OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • May be assigned to participate in special projects
  • Implement pesticides program


Skills Required

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • EXPERIENCE -- A minimum one (1) year of documented landscaping experience in a petroleum refinery or related industry. Must have knowledge of occupational hazards, pesticides use and safety rules
  • PROJECT MANAGEMENT & ORGANIZATION - Teamwork and the ability to handle multiple tasks
  • COMMUNICATIONS - Ability to communicate with all crews and other levels of the organization
  • PROBLEM-SOLVING -- Exhibits conflict resolution skills. Analyzes information and chooses the best solutions and evaluates results.

REQUIRED
  • The General Utility Laborer must have knowledge and proven competency with safety and current regulations and practices.
  • Must have hands-on experience and maintenance knowledge of landscaping tools, equipment, and supplies such as lawn mowers, weed eaters, leaf blowers, hedge clippers, trimmers, etc.
  • Must have knowledge of document preparation such as timesheet, JSA, permits etc.
  • Must be capable of effective communication with all levels of the organization.
  • Must have knowledge of pesticide application and storage.
  • Must have knowledge of cleaning procedures
  • The ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
                               NOTE: May require special licenses or certification.

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma or GED is a plus
  • Active TWIC card
  • Valid Driver's License

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Reach in all directions
  • Handle and manipulating objects and materials
  • Must be able to perform work wearing personal protective equipment including but not limited to rain gear, chemical protective clothing, safety harness, FRC coveralls, hard hat, ear plugs and safety glasses, etc.
  • Hearing and vision within normal ranges is helpful.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs., unassisted.
  • Good manual dexterity for the use of common hand tools, power tools and the ability to navigate around obstacles
  • Some tasks may be required to be performed regardless of weather conditions.
  • Will be exposed to loud noise, machinery with moving parts, dirt, dust, debris, chemicals, and foul odors.

**Position requires flexibility to include weekends, holidays, and after-hours for special projects, assignments, or tasks**
